A boiler operator must have specific qualifications to sit for the State of Ohio licensing exam.

To qualify for a Stationary Steam Engineer License: You must have 700 hours experience on Turbines (or) 1,000 hours experience on Boilers plus this 125-Hour Boiler/Turbine Training Course for 1,000 Credit Hours toward experience. Otherwise, you’ll need 2,000 hours of experience on turbines or boilers.

This course has been approved by State of Ohio for Tech Cred. This means companies in the State of Ohio may apply for Tech Cred to receive up to a $2,000 reimbursement. Classes are Monday - Friday for 3 consecutive weeks as outlined below. If within driving distance, attendees drive home at the end of each day. If not within driving distance, a hotel will need to be reserved.

Stationary Steam Engineer’s Course*

April 20 - May 1, 2026, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM (SSE)

*In order to only take the Stationary (SSE) course, a participant must have taken the High Pressure course from Steamworks as a prerequisite or currently hold a High Pressure Boiler Operator’s License. Taking these together, is recommended and a bundle discount has been applied.

What’s Included
Steamworks will provide books, writing utensils, notepads, state application, etc. In addition, Steamworks provides light breakfast snacks and lunch every day (excluding Fridays and plant tour days).

PLANT TOUR DAY - Student should bring the following in preparation for plant tour day.

  • Hard Hat

  • Safety Glasses

  • Hearing Protection

  • Steel-Toed Boots (or equivalent)

  • Long Sleeves & Pants (No shorts)

Payment by Purchase Order:

You may RESERVE A SEAT(S) by securing a company purchase order (PO). Prior to this method of payment, Steamworks must be in your company account as a qualified vendor. Steamworks will happily send a quote if applicable. Provide the PO from your company to reserve a seat(s). Once the training is complete, Steamworks will invoice through the PO. Payment Plan:

Individuals may register by setting up an approved payment plan with recurring monthly payments (6 months or 12 months). The applicable certification is not given until paid in full.
